FSA ONLY - Only certain OTC items are approved automatically using your Benefits Card. Some examples include contact lens solution, bandages or hearing aid batteries.
Although this is a "Smart Card," it is not smart enough to know if you have a prescription on file for an OTC.
To be reimbursed for other OTC items that require a Letter of Medical Necessity, a copy of a dated prescription for the drug or medicine must be submitted either prior to or at the time of filing the claim for reimbursement. A "prescription" means a written or electronic order for a medicine or drug that meets the legal requirements of a prescription in the state in which the medical expense is
incurred and that is issued by an individual who is legally authorized to issue a prescription in that state. This Letter of Medical Necessity is valid for one year from the date on the Doctor's note.
